Before your first visit

At Specialist Cardiology, we are dedicated to providing excellent care for your cardiac health. By preparing for your appointment and actively participating in the consultation, you can help ensure a positive and productive experience.

Please bring the following:

  • Referral – from your GP or Specialist. Your referral must be dated the day of, or before the day of your appointment. Typically referrals last for 12 months, so a new one will be needed each year. Referrals from a specialist only last 3 months.
  • Current Medicare card.
  • Private health insurance details.
  • Pension or Health Care Card.
  • List of current medications – both prescribed and over the counter.
  • Test results – anything that might be relevant for your consultation.
  • Comfortable clothing.

What to expect at your appointment

  • You will be greeted by our reception staff who will confirm your details and ensure you have completed all necessary paperwork.
  • You will then be called by one of our nurses or cardiac technicians for any necessary diagnostic tests.
  • Once completed, you will see your cardiologist who take your history and undertake a physical examination.
  • A management plan will be made and discussed with you.
  • Further testing for diagnosis of your condition will be decided.
  • Our reception staff will help organise all other testing for you and further appointments to discuss your results and progress.
  • We make every effort to run on time. Occasionally emergencies or patients require a little more time, and these cause scheduling delays beyond our control. We sincerely apologise if we keep you waiting.

Fees

Please note that Specialist Cardiology is a private business. Full payment is required on the day of your consultation and we offer Medicare Online claiming.

Our fees are below those set by the Australian Medical Association (AMA) recommended schedule of fees. We are not a bulk billing practice and a gap can always be expected.

We offer a discounted rate for Pension card holders and accept DVA Gold cards.

Please phone us prior to your appointment and we will be happy to advise costs of your consultation.

SMS Reminders

Specialist Cardiology sends SMS reminders a few days before all appointments. Please provide your mobile number upon booking an appointment. Your appointment will be able to be confirmed via return SMS.
